Single Gender Swim

In service of our mission to eliminate racism and empower women, YWCA Central Maine continues to offer several opportunities for women requiring single-gender access to the pool to enjoy the water.to the pool to enjoy the water.

Only women-identified patrons are permitted in the pool or locker rooms. The viewing area to the pool is curtained off for privacy and no males are allowed in the pool area, including lifeguards and swim instructors. Women are encouraged to wear the clothing that they are most comfortable in in the pool. This program is open only to those identifying as women and girls (15 years and older) who may require or prefer privacy for personal, religious, safety, privacy, cultural, or any other reason.

This is a free program that does not require a community access registration

Rules:

  • Be kind.

  • Respect others’ dignity, privacy, and personal boundaries – unwanted, uninvited, or invasive comments, touch, or looks are prohibited.

  • Proper and safe swimwear is required at all times in pool and deck areas. Please ensure private areas are fully covered in all shared spaces. No loose clothing or hardware (metal, etc.) on bathing suits in the pool.

  • Give others space to change, shower, and move comfortably throughout the space.

  • Keep phones and cameras put away at all times – no photography or recording allowed.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and integrity of the space -- demonstrate the same level of care and respect you would within your own homes.

  • No running, especially in the locker rooms or pool deck as the floors are slippery when wet!
