Pathways to Equity:
The Campaign for YWCA Central Maine

Women. Workforce. Water. Wellness. Wonder.

For generations, YWCA Central Maine has been a vital pathway for our community—a trusted source of opportunity, support, and belonging for families across Lewiston and Central Maine.

Our mission to empower women, eliminate racism, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all continues to guide our work today, connecting people to the resources, relationships, and opportunities that help them thrive.

Every day, YWCA creates pathways.

  • Pathways to childcare for working parents.

  • Pathways to wellness and healing.

  • Pathways to confidence and independence.

  • Pathways to education and workforce opportunity.

  • Pathways to belonging and community connection.

Now, as we look ahead to the next 150 years, YWCA Central Maine is launching
Pathways to Equity: The Campaign for YWCA Central Maine,
a $10 million investment in the people, programs, and spaces that strengthen our community.

This campaign is about more than improving a building.

More than a pool. More than a classroom. More than a computer.

It is about expanding opportunity, removing barriers, and creating pathways so that every woman, child, and family can thrive.

Join us in Building Pathways to Equity

  • For 150 years, YWCA Central Maine has helped women, children, and families overcome barriers and access opportunity.

Today, we have the opportunity to build on that legacy.

Pathways to Equity is more than a capital campaign. It is a community investment in childcare, workforce development, wellness, aquatics, technology access, and welcoming spaces that bring people together.

Through this campaign, we will expand access to opportunity for working families, strengthen community wellness, modernize aging facilities, and ensure YWCA Central Maine remains a vibrant resource for generations to come.

  • When Women Rise, Communities Move Forward

YWCA programs open pathways to prosperity—transforming childcare, wellness, education, and skill-building into opportunity for all.

    Every résumé refined.

    Every certification earned.

    Every child safely cared for.

    Every woman supported.

Each creates ripple effects that strengthen families, workplaces, and our broader community.

Research consistently demonstrates that when women are able to participate fully in the workforce, communities experience stronger economic growth, greater family stability, and improved outcomes for children.

That is not simply economic progress.

    It is community progress.

YWCA helps our entire community move forward.

  • Childcare & Education for Tomorrow's Leaders

    More than a classroom.

    Building foundations for the future.

Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of income, background, or circumstance.

At YWCA Central Maine, more than 65% of children in our care receive financial assistance—evidence of both significant community need and deep trust from working families.

Childcare is more than a service.

It is essential infrastructure for families, employers, and the regional economy.

Reliable childcare keeps parents connected to work, strengthens household stability, and ensures children enter school ready to learn and succeed.

Through Pathways to Equity, YWCA Central Maine will expand early education programs to create 32 new childcare slots for working families while enhancing safe, developmentally supportive learning and play environments for children.

This investment supports not only today's families, but tomorrow's leaders.

When children have strong foundations, communities grow stronger alongside them.

  • DIGITAL ACCESS & WORKFORCE OPPORTUNITY

    More than a computer.

    Opening doors to opportunity.

Opportunity today requires connection—to technology, education, workforce pathways, and community support.

YWCA Central Maine helps women, New Mainers, and young leaders access the tools and relationships that create long-term stability and economic mobility.

Through YW Strive and other workforce initiatives, we provide career readiness support, digital access, mentorship, and job training that help individuals build confidence, independence, and opportunity.

We also create meaningful first-job experiences for lifeguards, swim instructors, childcare workers, and young leaders whose work strengthens the fabric of our community.

The campaign will establish a dedicated Connectivity Hub where families can access digital tools, educational resources, workforce development support, and pathways to employment.

When access expands, opportunity expands alongside it.

  • Every Dollar Circulates through the Local Grid

The money spent on staff, contractors, and program graduates re-energizes our local economy—circulating through shops, restaurants, and tax bases. Our impact goes beyond our walls: hundreds of volunteer hours each year strengthen community programs, and we proudly partner with and give back to other local nonprofits, ensuring resources stay right here in Lewiston–Auburn.

This is community-generated power—investment that stays local, multiplies opportunity, and builds a stronger, more connected Central Maine.

Building the Future Together.

  • It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more.
