Stand Against Racism 2027

“Change the Current”

What does it take to create a community where everyone has the opportunity to participate, belong, and thrive?

Join YWCA Central Maine on March 15, 2027, at Central Maine Community College for our Stand Against Racism Conference—a day of learning, conversation, and action focused on racial equity, access, and belonging.

This year's conference will feature When Everyone Swims, a documentary by Diversity in Aquatics that explores the history, barriers, and importance of equitable access to swimming and water safety.

The morning will feature a screening of the documentary, followed by lunch and afternoon breakout sessions designed to encourage dialogue, share perspectives, and explore ways to advance equity and inclusion in our communities.

Whether you are a business leader, educator, community advocate, nonprofit professional, or concerned citizen, your voice and perspective belong in this conversation.

Together, we can build communities where everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive.

Featured Documentary: When Everyone Swims

What happens when access to something as fundamental as swimming is not equal for everyone?

When Everyone Swims, by Diversity in Aquatics, explores the history and impact of racial disparities in swimming and water safety. The documentary provides an opportunity to examine how historical and systemic barriers affect access, participation, and opportunity—and why creating inclusive spaces matters.

The film will serve as the starting point for a broader conversation about equity, belonging, and the work of building communities where everyone can participate and thrive.
